Our October meeting will be this Thursday, October 1st. Join us for snacks and a police update at 6:30 p.m., and the main agenda from 7-8:30 p.m. at 2543 California Street.
This month we have several great guests, and will be inviting everyone to examine a detailed plan for updating Champa and Stout:
- Visits from candidates for School Board and District Attorney continue. As of this writing, we expect to hear brief introductions from Robert Speth (for School Board At-Large) and Kenneth Boyd (for Denver District Attorney).
- We’ll get a preview of a significant new development in Arapahoe Square from David Zucker, principal of Zocalo Community Development. The new project will host the new headquarters of Rocky Mountain PBS. It will contain a 500-seat theatre, performance space, the new broadcast studios of jazz station KUVO, the Downtown Expeditionary School’s middle school, a mixed-income residential property and a food hall.
- Anthony Grimes with the “A Smart Deal for Denver” campaign will make the case for the 2C ballot measure, extending the current 1.75% visitors tax on hotel rooms and car rentals in order to create the National Western Center.
- The last half-hour of our meeting will be a presentation and in-depth review of significant bike facility improvements on Champa and Stout by Rachael Bronson from Denver Public Works. This new design should increase biking safety and comfort, reduce speeding, make it easier for pedestrians to cross Stout, and finally address the very dangerous lane merge at the top of Champa.
